Germany hails Queen Elizabeth II as "example and inspiration to millions"
German leaders have added their words to the flood of condolence messages coming in from all over the world following the news that Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, died on Thursday aged 96.

“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral [her home in Scotland] this afternoon,” Buckingham palace said in a statement on Thursday evening.
“The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
Queen Elizabeth II is succeeded by her eldest son, who will now take the throne and the title King Charles III.
In a statement on Thursday, the new monarch said, “The death of my beloved mother Her Majesty the Queen is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.”
