Roscoe Lee Browne: Biography
Roscoe Lee Browne was born on May 2, 1935, in Woodbury, New Jersey.
He was the son of Baptist preacher Sylvanus Browne and his wife Lovey Lee. Browne attended Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, the first university to open its doors to African Americans, where he became a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
He studied literature and languages and graduated from the university in 1946, after which he embarked on internships at Middlebury College in Vermont, Columbia University in New York City, and the University of Florence in Italy.
