Irish-born former Canadian regional CMO dies
An Irish doctor who formerly held the position of chief medical officer (CMO) in the province of New Brunswick in Canada has died at the age of 60.
Dr Eilish Cleary, of Penniac, New Brunswick, died in the city of Fredericton on Friday last, March 22.

She had been previously diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
Dr Cleary was born in Dublin in 1963 to John and Mary Cleary. She had four siblings, Brid, Kevin, Fiona, and Siobhan. At the age of 22, Eilish became the youngest doctor in Ireland at the time when she graduated from Trinity College.
She then spent much of her life working in Canada, where she moved with her immediate family in 1998.
With Gerard Beirne, she had four children – James, Luke, Sorcha, and Cormac.
In 1998, the family moved to Northern Manitoba and lived in Norway House Cree Nation, where she worked at the hospital.
