Early LifeMark Spitz, an American swimmer of Jewish descent, was born on February 10, 1950, in a typical Jewish family.
At the age of two, his father, a steel casting engineer, was sent on a business trip to Hawaii. By that time, Mark was already comfortable in the water, and his mother would often find him on the famous Waikiki Beach, where he would escape whenever he had the chance.
Two years later, the family returned to California, and a few years after that, Mark joined the country's strongest club, Santa Clara.
