Early Life & Education

Michael Adeniyi Agbolade Ishola Adenuga Jr.

was born on April 29, 1953. His father, Oloye Michael Agbolade Adenuga Sr., was a schoolteacher, and his mother, Omoba Juliana Oyindamola Adenuga, was a royal Ijebu Igbo entrepreneur.

Mike Adenuga completed his secondary school education at Ibadan Grammar School in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, and his Higher School Certificate (HSC) at Comprehensive High School in Aiyetoro.

To help pay for his academic tuition, he worked as a cab driver. He obtained business administration degrees from Northwestern Oklahoma State University and Pace University in New York.

Career

At the age of 26, Mike Adenuga made his first million, selling lace and distributing soft beverages.

He was granted a drilling license in 1990, and his Consolidated Oil (now Conoil) discovered oil in the shallow seas of Southwestern Ondo State in 1991, making it the first indigenous oil business to do so in commercial quantities.
